In early 2012, a new thermokarst feature was discovered on a previously stable stream bank on Crescent Creek in Taylor Valley, Antarctica. The degradation of the stream bank released nutrient-rich soils into the stream and produced major differences in solute concentrations. TLS observations have been conducted annually since January 2012 to monitor and quantify the degradation of the stream bank. The data will be used in conjunction with results from water samples to determine the impact on the microbial communities and the greater ecosystem.
