Blood Falls (PS01): C-528 - Blood Falls Subglacial Processes

Project: Blood Falls Subglacial Processes (C-528)

Description

Blood Falls is a striking red-orange feature at the toe of Taylor Glaicer in Taylor Valley that is formed by the secretion of a hypersaline, subglacial brine supporting an active microbial community. The subglacial brine is released from a crevasse at the Taylor Glacier’s surface, providing an access point into an Antarctic subglacial ecosystem. The site is accessible by helicopter.
