At the toe of the Taylor Glacier in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, reddish-orange brine estimated to be 2-4 millions of years old spills out of a large crack in the glacier and dramatically flows down into Lake Bonney. This area is known as Blood Falls, and it is believe that the iron-rich brine is the remnant of an ancient sea. In the hopes of better understanding the structure and mechanics of the phenomenon, a TLS survey of the Blood Falls area was conducted to image the large crack that releases the brine solution.
