G-438 - Dry Valleys Landform Evolution

PI: Dr. Sujoy Mukhopadhyay
Project Lead: Robert Ackert
Funding Source: NSF/PLR 1144178
Location: Asgard Range, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica
Dates: 2008-12-02 to 2014-05-28

Project Summary

The Asgard and Convoy Ranges are marked by dramatic channels and large "pothole" features whose origins are the main objective of the studies undertaken by G-438. It is unknown if the features are formed by subaerial weathering processes (wind) or subglacial erosion beneath an ice sheet. TLS data will be used to create a 3D contour map of these erosional features that will help the team analyze roughness and slope angles and generate views from different angles.
