The scarp of Red Rock Fault runs northwest to southeast across the site, and is the main survey interest. The site is accessed via dirt roads from Highway 15. The land is owned by the US Department of Agriculture. Site access and sUAS operations were granted by Bert Smith, Deer Lodge District Ranger Supervisor of the USDA. During the survey, John Weber contacted the abutting landowner to the south, who also granted access and sUAS operations. The site has not been previously surveyed by UNAVCO. A dirt road runs straight through the main area of interest at approximately 44°38'49.18"N, 112°41'30.03"W, 6500 ft. The area is identified to be within Class G airspace, and there were no NOTAMS published at the time of survey
The primary objective of the SfM survey is to create a digital elevation model (DEM) of the main scarp, starting from Chute Canyon and moving outward along the scarp as time allows. Additionally, students were given 4 GNSS receivers to survey transects of the scarp, with the intent of comparing their data to the SfM DEM
