PI: NZ Heritage Trust
Project Lead: Lizzie Meek
Funding Source: NZ Antarctic Heritage Trust
Location: Ross Island, Antarctica
Dates: 2010-12-29 to 2011-11-30

Project Summary

The New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust's mission is to preserve five of the historic Antarctic expedition bases in the Ross Sea area of Antarctica and the thousands of associated artifacts. The goal of the lidar scans of the Discovery Hut on Hut Point on Ross Island were to create an ever-lasting 3D model of the outside and inside of the hut for preservation and for potential use in a museum exhibit. The hut was built during Robert F. Scott's first Antarctic expedition (1901-1904) and still stands at Hut Point.
