Description

Mauna Kea is a 4,205 m that tops the Island of Hawaii. The lower boundary of the area of interest begins approximately 4.5 miles (7km) from the visitors' center, where the road flattens after the initial climb. The study area stretches north along the road and includes the summit itself, all of the observatories, including the backside of the Subaru and Keck Observatories, the entire Pu'u Hau Kea crater, and the craters along the VLBA road.
